Dale Street, W4
Most Victorian houses lack the loftiness and openness we crave today. The owners of this Victorian terrace on Dale Street had two clear objectives: to open up the rear of their home to let in an abundance of natural light, and to extend upwards to provide a more usable second floor for modern family living. Through a combination of a fully glazed side-infill extension and a distinctive loft conversion, we transformed this traditional terrace into a bright, airy residence that was featured in Beautiful Kitchens magazine.

The Brief
The owners sought a home that felt open and streamlined, with a particular focus on a "one-of-a-kind" interior aesthetic. They wanted to move away from standard finishes, opting instead for a palette that felt both nostalgic and contemporary. The brief included a complete ground-floor reconfiguration to improve flow, a side-return extension to maximise the kitchen's footprint, and a high-quality guest suite in the newly converted loft to take advantage of the views across West London.
The heart of this home is the ground-floor kitchen, where we introduced a bespoke Hamilton King plywood kitchen. The design uses a 1970s-inspired palette of yellow and pastels, creating a space that feels vibrant, sociable, and filled with character. To ensure the room remains bright year-round, we designed a fully glazed side-infill extension that allows natural light to penetrate deep into the plan. The mix of natural wood textures and clean, uncluttered lines creates a modern social hub that feels both playful and highly sophisticated.

BESPOKE PLYWOOD KITCHEN & GLAZED EXTENSION
Externally, the bespoke profile cedar cladding is one-of-a-kind and adds a contemporary but aging finish that sets the property apart. We continued our work on the second floor, gaining Permitted Development Rights to convert the loft area. This new space accommodates a comfortably sized guest suite that serves as a quiet retreat at the top of the house. With large windows offering expansive views, the conversion adds a sense of volume and height that was previously missing from the original property.

The Result
The transformation of Dale Street highlights the impact of combining bold interior choices with clever structural changes. By managing the project from the initial architectural concepts through to the bespoke kitchen manufacture and final build, we delivered a home that is truly reflective of the owners' personality. It is a space that balances nostalgic design cues with modern functionality, proving that a Victorian terrace can be both a practical family home and a unique piece of design.
