Hammersmith & Fulham Home, W6
Located close to Kensington Olympia, this elegant family residence is undergoing a comprehensive modernisation designed to balance grand architectural scale with intimate, refined detail. Our brief was to revisit an existing scheme to create a more sympathetic and substantial two-storey wing, significantly increasing the home's footprint while enhancing its connection to the garden. Currently in the planning stage, the project introduces a light-filled loft retreat, a garden-facing home office, and a sophisticated material palette that will elevate the property for years to come.

The owners of this family home have lived in the property for some time and reached out to us to lead a comprehensive modernisation. While a previous planning permission existed, the new brief was far more ambitious: to revisit the scheme and design a larger, more sympathetic additional wing that would truly complement the character of the existing house.
The objective is to create an elegant, well-connected building with generous head heights that adds significant long-term value. Key requirements include a new garage capable of housing a family SUV, a garden-facing home office, a large multi-purpose living suite on the first floor, and a full loft conversion to maximise the property's vertical potential.
Concept Designs
Our design response focuses on seamless integration between the old and the new. We developed a series of spatial variations to ensure the new wing feels like a natural evolution of the main house rather than a secondary addition. On the ground floor, we have prioritised the connection to the outdoors, designing a private office space with expansive views of the garden and a new lobby that provides a formal transition between the garage and the main residence.
The first floor of the extension is dedicated to a large, light-filled multi-purpose living space, featuring an enlarged balcony that adjoins the main house.
To ensure the new loft level is easily accessible, we designed a new side dormer that allows the existing staircase to continue upward gracefully. This third floor will house a secluded bedroom and a compact bathroom, providing a private retreat at the top of the house.
Technical Design & Planning Agility
Earlier this year, we submitted a formal planning application for the erection of the two-storey side extension and the demolition of the existing single-storey garage. While we await the planning outcome, we are already pushing ahead with the technical and aesthetic layers of the project.
We are currently working into the detailed designs, selecting high-end finishes throughout the home. This involves the creation of physical sample boards and mood boards to help the client visualise the interplay of textures. Producing a comprehensive set of drawings for the garden’s hard landscaping, including a new patio layout that mirrors the elegance of the interior reconfiguration.
We are currently awaiting the planning response and are incredibly optimistic about the potential of this transformation. We look forward to moving into the build management phase and seeing this project through to completion to deliver a truly refined residence for our clients.
